Psycholanalytic and Marxist approaches in 'The Great Gatsby'

Image via: Timeout

In the novel The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald (reprinted, 2016) depicted the developing American society of the 1920s. The narrative approach of the author remains simple and surprising at the same time. As the plot develops, the reader starts getting a clear picture of the psychological differences between the people of West Egg against the East Egg of Long Island. The ideology remains focused on showing the differences between the personal and social point of view that tries to reflect gaps in the American Dream. The characters of this novel are all true representatives of different lifestyles and ideologies of 1920s America.

ready to enter into my world of mirrors.
Every mirror has it's own definition of beauty
but my aim is to look good in every mirror I encounter.
Putting different faces over faces I struggle hard to look the best

Powerful Shift of Book Censorship from 1600 to Present: In Reference to China

Image via: Bookish

The practice of book censorship is predominant in human history for a long period. The traces date back to ancient China where censorship was marked as a legitimate tool for regulating the political and moral outlook of the people (Newth, 2010). As stated by Newth (2010), the origin of the term ‘censor’ was from the office of censor of 443 BC, Rome. As for the Greeks for the maintenance of good governance, it is important to shape the character of individuals of the state and so censorship gets noted as an honourable task (Newth, 2010). However, with time the act of censorship started getting associated with controversial statements at large.

‘Midnight’s Children’: Indian History, Political Upheavals and Fragmented Identity

‘Midnight’s Children’

Introduction
"And there are so many stories to tell, too many, such an excess of intertwined lives events miracles places rumors, so dense a commingling of the improbable and the mundane! I have been a shallower of lives; and to know me, just the one of me, you’ll have to swallow the lot as well." (Rushdie, 1980, p. 4)
Being ‘a shallower of lives’, self-awareness narrative style dominates the writings of Salman Rushdie. As a writer, Rushdie offers mirror image of Indian history, political upheavals and most importantly, the fragmented identity of India. Rushdie is very clear in inviting the reader to get an insight of the life and society that he is dealing with.

It is in general noted as a determined way of depicting postmodern culture and life, showing the identity crisis of human beings under the pressure of sexual, ethnic, cultural and social existence and continuous struggle with the same for the establishment of legitimate existence in the hypocritical society (Bertens and Fokkema (edt. 1997).

‘The God Particle’: Revolutionizing Particle Physics

It is a tremendous attempt to revolutionize the belief of having a sub-atomic particle called the Higgs Boson, an unstable particle, so elusive that it is generally referred to as "the God Particle" in Particle Physics. The near about completion of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN); in an enormous spherical underground tunnel beneath the French-Swiss border; is a step in the process of materializing the dream of Particle Physicist.
