It is a tremendous attempt to revolutionize the belief of having a sub-atomic particle called the Higgs Boson, an unstable particle, so elusive that it is generally referred to as "the God Particle" in Particle Physics. The near about completion of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN); in an enormous spherical underground tunnel beneath the French-Swiss border; is a step in the process of materializing the dream of Particle Physicist.
The purpose of this particular experiment is to prove the existence of "the God Particle", which may redefine the concepts of Particle Physics. It will also help in investigating ‘SUPERSYMMETRY’, the inscrutability of ‘MATTER AND ANTI-MATTER’ and also will reproduce the initial instants after the ‘BIG BANG’. The exorbitant expenditure of 6 billion dollars involved in the project will be worthwhile if the gamble pays off.
The
LHC is the largest high-energy particle accelerator ever built, which
will speed up beams of hydrogen protons, amazingly to 99.9999 per cent
of the speed of light. It will have the capability to smash heavy ions
with each other at the rate of a billion collisions per second; producing a
temperature 100,000 times hotter than the centre of the Sun. the
phenomenon will destroy the particles giving out quarks, muons, pions and other
exotically-named members of the sub-atomic bestiary which will be very
specifically get detected by massive detectors placed within the chambers of
LHC.
Eventually,
the process is in itself huge but is worth the implementation, as it will
clarify many un about Particle Physics and will generate many new horizons in
the exploration of the same.
