The American Civil War took
place from 1861 to 1865. It was caused due to the complex and controversial
debates about slavery in America. The
Civil War started as soon as the Confederates invaded
the Fort Sumter, South Carolina. This war lasted for 4 years and in this four
years America faced innumerable deaths and depressions in every field of its
existence. However, it turned up to be a great learning lesson to the American
population.
The impacts of this war get well noted
in the creation of Reconstruction Era
that lasted from 1863 to
1877. It is at this period that America underwent the restoration process for restabilising its nationalism, gaining a strong political governance, and hold over civil rights. Some of the remarkable and positive impacts of the American Civil War get counted as the nationalists urged for a united America, and thereby get its grip over the states of Southern America. In this urge Southern America was even not allowed to get separated from North America. The states of Southern America were under military supervision and were readmitted to the Union.
The emergence of Federal governance is
one of the most appropriate results of the Civil War. On political frontier,
Americans were getting aware of the importance of federalism and adequate
amount of sovereign powers were shared among the states. The national
government of America grew more independent and was comfortable in offering
adequate independence to all its state. Even the political and the social
issues were considered with more liberal point of views. The purpose was to
create a united nationalists ideology within American states.
The American Civil War is the chief
reason that brought an end to the practice of slavery to the entire continent.
The role and implementation of 13th amendment of the US constitution
is the chief element that abolished the act of slavery from America. As this
amendment took place by the end of the war, all the slaves were offered with
the sense of equality in the social, economical, and political frontiers.
The great process of reconstructing a
great nation came as a result of the huge losses that America faced after the
Civil War. Inclusion of industrialism as the backbone for the economic growth
of America was one of the major steps that supported America for its prolonged
growth. The practice of giving huge importance to industrialism was the result
of meeting wartime productions, hence key development in the post war scenario
of America.
The impacts were made in the social and
political frontiers, especially through the 13th, 14th,
and 15th amendments for abolition of slavery, allotment of
citizenship for all those who are born in America, and voting rights to all
men, irrespective of race; respectively. These are noted as the major changes
in the American history. Rights for women, Homestead Act of 1862, and
censorship over brutal photos of war, are some of the major steps that were
taken to create positive environment in America.
Due to the consequences of the Civil War,
developments in the field of medicine and healthcare can be noted as one of the
major developments in America. Organisations were made for the establishment of
modern hospitals, improved surgical provisions, and developed anaesthesia. The
government also engaged laws and officials for organising nurses and ambulances
for immediate medical assistance to the citizens. Moreover, to heal the grieves
of Civil War, American government started observing some special days, like
Emancipation Day, Memorial Day, etc. The idea was to promote the sense of
belonging for Americans, as a one nation. Creating nationalistic feelings were
promoted by the films, image of Santa Clause, establishment of National Parks,
marketing of Centennial toys etc.
It will be appropriate to consider that
the terror of Civil War actually taught the American population about the
importance of life and the reasons for living together. The role of government
played very vital in creating better lifestyles for the Americans. Gaining
technological advancement in the post war scenario is the most important impact
of the Civil War of America. Americans realised that it is through hi-tech
inventions and discoveries that the nation can gain great economic growth.
Production of canned food, creation of telegraph lines, emergence of
transcontinental railroads, cartridge ammunition, miniƩ ball bullets, national
paper currency, etc. are some of the remarkable developments that America
gained after the Civil War.
As
a whole, it can be stated that the American Civil War appeared to be a great lesson
learnt by the Americans, and it is the reason that boosted this nation to
emerge as one of the richest and powerful nations of the modern world.
